Become Rich Stuffing Envelopes!!

I am sure i am not the only person who has seen an ad like the title above, probably you have seen dozens, if not millions of them. The offer really does sound tempting doesn't it? I mean who wouldn't want to wake up at 10am and work in their pj's with the TV on and making piles of cash from just stuffing envelopes? As the adage goes, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

So how does it work?
You come across an ad that claims that "Vicky" makes $400 every week without ever having to leave her house. The work is described as fun, easy and doesn’t require any experience.

You then have a blonde moment and order the starter pack. If it arrives, the bad news suddenly becomes obvious. You're not actually going to be paid for every envelope you fill. Rather, you’re expected to spread the news about the fabulous opportunity that is the envelope stuffing business.

The saga continues.....You achieve this by placing your own ad or creating a flyer, advertising for people to contact you. You then sell your knowledge of making money through stuffing envelopes for a price. And then you collect it, enquiry by enquiry. This is also known as the “revolving door”, since the advertisement is the product and each is equally worthless.

Part twoThe starter pack includes the details of a mailing list you can buy so you too can send out their "sales letters" professing Vicky’s miraculous windfall. This list is worthless, with the response rates being well below 1%. Either way, you're not going to be earning thousands of rands per month by putting brochures of legitimate businesses into envelopes.

Stuffing envelopes
The truth is that for bulk mailings, stuffing envelopes by hand is a thing of the past. Mailing houses have machinery that can fold, insert and seal 5,000 envelopes in an hour. And when items do exist that require work to be done by hand, this is usually achieved in-house at minimum wage.

Questions you should ask
If you're tempted by a "work-from-home opportunity", ask the following questions to determine if the employment opportunity is legitimate:

  • What do I get for my initial fees?
  • When will I get my first payment?
  • Is there a salary involved or is the work commission-based?
  • What is the total cost of the programme – supplies, such as envelopes, membership fees and equipment?
  • What will I have to do?

If given any answers that give you even a niggling feeling of doubt, trust your instincts.

Owning a direct mail company is really the only way to make money from filling and posting envelopes. But this is an exception to the rule.

Have you ever met a wealthy envelope-stuffer?

No? Me neither.

Get paid from home

Today we are going to discuss how to turn your hobby into cash i.e. getting paid to do what you love.

Most hobbies, but not all, have two elements contained within them. The product portion (something you produce and can sell) and a service element (a service you can offer to people at a cost).

For example, let’s say your hobby is making toys. There are two different saleable elements of the same hobby. You could sell your toys, a product, or you could sell your toy-making skills as a service by teaching others how to make toys.

You can hone your skills to build an income and escape your 9 to 5 as well as to teach others to make toys. But the two ventures need to be kept separate. On the whole you can use the same techniques to sell your hobby product as your hobby service.

So now that you have identified the two marketable portions of your hobby, how do you start getting paid to do what you love?

Let’s start by analyzing the product element first. You’ve got a bunch of toys that you’ve made and you keep producing new ones when you have the time. Perfect: that’s your initial stock.

But you need an outlet. By far the simplest and most cost effective outlet available to you is the Internet. A website that potential customers can visit, view your product and order is the most ideal outlet in this regard.

You can develop and clean the website in time, but to get started, that’s all you need. Your website doesn’t need to break the bank either. You can create simple but effective websites
with website builders like wordpresss

The drawback with such free services is that online order forms are complex to set up. But you can get round this by providing customers with a telephone number or an email address with which they can order directly from you. At this early stage of your business this is actually a lot more effective.

Once you’ve set up a website for your hobby product, in exactly the same way you can set up a website for your hobby service. You should follow exactly the same principles as your hobby product website: keep it simple and easy to use, making sure prices and contact details are easily identifiable.

You’ve set up two websites. One for your hobby product and one for your hobby service. People can view the websites, people can see what you’re selling and how much it will cost them and people can contact you to purchase your product or service.

If you set your mind to it, it's easily achievable. And you’ll have set up an outlet to start selling your product or service (or both).

Selling your way to riches

It doesn't matter what you're selling or whether you're doing it in person, on radio/TV, in an email newsletter or via direct mail. When it's time to close the sale, you ask your prospect...

"What can I do to make this work for you?"

I know... I
t sounds like a used-car pitch. But let me explain the logic behind it.

Before you can make a sale, you first need to understand what the prospect wants or needs. When you understand what makes your prospect tick, you'll be able to construct an irresistible offer.

The best way to find out what your prospects want is to Ask them! You will not be disappointed if you do because most of the time they'll tell you.

Once you begin using this technique of understanding your prospects first and giving them what they want, new doors of opportunities will open for you -and the bucks will begin to pour in.

Independent Selling
Whether the economy goes good or bad, independent sales reps (especially the successful ones), will always be a necessity. Real estate, IT, direct-mail services, medical equipment and supplies, etc, these are just a few of the industries that desperately need independent sales reps. Look for markets that are of interest to you and start digging for opportunities. Very few companies will turn you down.

What's in it for you?

Every business needs sales in order to survive and thrive. And most business owners are receptive to freelancers, because it means less money flowing out of their pockets. They don't have to provide freelancers with things like a regular salary or a pension plan.

The disadvantage of being a freelancer is that you have to forgo the benefits and security that usually go along with a salaried position. However, the upside is that  commissions usually far exceed what you could make with a "regular" sales job. Over and above that, they have the freedom to work on their own terms i.e. they can work from home!

Finding the hidden gold mine

Today i am going to show you how to rake in more profits from a gold mine that is already under your nose but is currently invisible to you eyes.

Every entrepreneur  is capable of running two successful  businesses, however most people's focus is on business number 1. What are your two businesses, and how can you find business number 2 and rake big profits from it?

Your first business is your main business e.g. treating patients if you are a doctor or managing the financial affairs of your clients if you are an accountant. Your second business is the one you automatically qualify to be in as a result of the first business.

An accountant, for instance, has to know a lot about taxes, cash flow management, and financial reporting just to help his clients effectively. In addition to helping improve health through spinal adjustments, a chiropractor also needs the necessary management skills to run a chiropractic practice.

The "hidden gold mine" in your business is the knowledge you need in order to sell your main product/service. This knowledge can be turned into gold by sharing it with the world for a price. i.e. this knowledge can give birth to a lucrative consultancy business!!

A personal trainer, for instance, could, for a reasonable fee, show local corporations how to run an effective wellness program for their employees.

He might only be able to charge his training clients $50 to $100 an hour. But a corporate client might pay him a whopping $5 000 for just a couple of days work!!

Its a no-brainer that large companies have deeper pockets than individuals paying for their own training. And the benefits to the company of sponsoring such a program are numerous e.g increased productivity and high morale.

Evaluate your business or job. Do you know something that others also want to know? Of course you do. Don't let this wisdom waste away, share it with the world and get paid for it! You can package it as speeches, e-books, audio-programs, workshops etc...

Case in point: Travis McFee, a successful dentist, decided to show other dentists how to make more money. He made a small fortune with his Profitable Dentist conferences, newsletter, and products.

Here are some steps you can to take to convert your knowledge into a lucrative consulting business:

1. First, identify the knowledge you have that is in demand. This is typically knowledge about how to run your type of business (e.g. a copywriter can teach "how to make money writing online") or about your skill, service, or expertise.

2. Next, who is your target market? Will you sell your consulting services to individuals or businesses? If businesses, what type of companies will you target?

3. Decide how you will deliver your information to your potential clients. Will you teach public seminars or you will conduct tele-seminars? or maybe you will conduct online training classes for corporate employees?

4. How much will you charge? You'll discover what the market will bear as you progress. But at the beginning how much should you ask for? Fees differ from industry to industry, but $250 a day is not a bad starting point.

The best part about all this is that the bulk of your work as a consultant can be done in the comfort of your own home!

Home business mistakes to avoid (pt 2)

• Its not just about the money!
Working for yourself is exciting at first, but the excitement fades with time if money is your main motivator. Even if you're making an above average income, you will end up getting used to your new level of income, so that alone isn't the best of motivations.

Remember, you're going to have to work long hours to get your business off the ground, maybe for free in the first couple of weeks or even months! Working on something you are passionate about will keep you focused and happy even when the money hasn't started pouring in.

To ensure success, you need to love your work because it's easier to keep going when the going gets tough.

• Cover the basics
Buying good quality office equipment such as a computer, printer, scanner and fax machine is a great investment. Any correspondence with your clients needs to be impressive and investing in quality office equipment is 1 step towards ensuring that.

• Carve the image of success
Create the illusion of good-standing and impeccable credentials by investing in good quality stationery and getting a pro to design your logo. When you work for an established company at big offices, it's easy to project an image of success and competence but it's a bit harder when are you working from home.

But there are probably things you take for granted at an established office that could let you down when you shift to a home business.

Follow the above guide and make sure you give your home business the best possible chance of success!

Home business mistakes to avoid

Business is getting tougher these days, and having a successful home business is even tougher. To ensure your success, today i will give you some tips that'll help put you ahead of the pack and keep you earning in a tough market.

• Expect to sweat!
Cruel, I know, just when you were fantasizing about long lunches and endless golf games. We only tend to think about the perks of being a boss, not the hard work that comes with the position.

In reality, your boss probably works 12 hour days, and takes work home. And that's just an example of the level of commitment you'll need to get a home-business off the ground.

• Discipline is harder than you think!
Being your own boss is a dream position to be in, but there's a real risk of slackening because the temptation to live out the life of a boss stereotype can lead you astray.

So, you'll get up, see it's a sunny day and say to yourself, "Take all my calls and move my appointments, I'm off to golf". The bad thing about this is, there'll be no one around to stop you. Do you need a boss to constantly sit on you to finish a job, or do you happily work until a job is done without any pressure? Give some serious thought to the aforementioned questions.

If you fall into the first category, you'll have to reform asap. Enrolling in a business management course that includes time management is a great idea.

• Time "stealers"At home everything takes so much longer to get done than you think, because there are so many distractions that steal your time. The baby crying, social phone calls, visitors, blah blah can all steal away your time and attention from what needs to be done. Henceforth, what usually took an hour in the office could take one and a half hours at home! More pitfalls will be discussed in the next article.
